Building Across Borders · Newcomers

Your experience isn't a gap. It's the foundation.

Most newcomers show up with years, sometimes decades, of real construction experience. The barrier isn't skill. It's Canadian codes, safety culture, certification, and the words used on site.

I've lived and worked in ten countries, and I walked onto my first Canadian site knowing nothing. I know what it means to start over, and I know what employers here actually look for. Building Across Borders closes that gap: it takes what people already know and turns it into Canadian trade titles, a paper trail, and a plan to get certified and hired.

What participants walk away with

Ready for a Canadian site

  • Their trade in Canadian terms — what they did at home, matched to Canadian trade titles
  • A work history document — the record apprenticeship offices and employers actually use
  • A certification plan — Red Seal, trade challenge exams, prior learning assessment, first safety tickets
  • How a Canadian site runs — who you report to, documentation, PPE, the right to refuse unsafe work
  • Site vocabulary — the words foremen use, so nobody gets lost on day one
  • A resume and LinkedIn that get calls — built around their real experience
Credential conversion

English, with backup

Programs are delivered in plain English. I understand some French and Spanish, enough to help a participant who's stuck, and I bring in a co-facilitator when a group needs it. French and Spanish handouts are in the works.
