Remote teaching · Live from the studio

I've been teaching on camera for years. Now it's live.

My studio in Eastern Ontario is set up to teach live: one camera on me, one on the bench, tools up close, questions answered in real time. Your group can be in Halifax, Iqaluit or Tobago. No travel on the invoice.

This isn't a pandemic Zoom call with a slide deck. It's the same hands-on teaching I do in a room. I pick up the tool, show you how it works, and your facilitator runs the stations on your end.

14-module video series

Being built now: studio-shot, 8–12 minutes a module, with quizzes, certificates and a tracking dashboard. Made for ACCES's construction program and theirs to own.

With Dr. Bruce Firestone

Daydream to Reality

A course I co-developed with Bruce on finding, financing and building a getaway that pays for itself. I built my own modules and we worked them into one program. We launched it with a live online webinar, then taught it in person for a full week in Mérida, Mexico (February 2023). Watch the webinar →

Four ways to run it

Pick the format that fits your people.

Live remote class

Me on your screen

Any course from the library, taught live. Tools shown up close on the bench camera, Q&A as we go. 3–4 hours per course.

Certificate of Completion
Hybrid hands-on

Studio + kit

I teach live. A local facilitator runs the stations with a tool kit and materials list I send ahead. Your people do the work, I coach.

Certificate of Practical Training
Self-paced

Recorded courses

Videos, handouts and a quiz people finish on their own time. Also the backup when the internet drops.

Digital Learner Certificate
Custom video

Your program on video

Scripted around what your people need, shot in my studio, and handed over for your learning platform. Like the ACCES series.

Yours to own
How a live class works

From booking to certificate.

Plan

A 15-minute call about who you're training and what they need. Outline and quote within 48 hours.

Ship

Handouts go out ahead. For hybrid days, the tool kit and a one-page facilitator guide too.

Teach

Live on Zoom or Teams. I switch between me and the bench so everyone sees the tool and the technique.

Certify

Every participant gets a certificate. You get a short wrap-up on how the group did.

What you need on your end

A screen and a room

A TV or projector, speakers and a microphone the room can use, and a wired internet connection if you have one. For hybrid days: a local facilitator and a workspace with power.

Built for bad internet

Nothing gets lost

Recorded modules are loaded ahead of time and every session has a printed handout. If the connection drops, your facilitator keeps going and I pick it back up.

Northern & remote communities

Teach from the studio. Fly in once.

Flights and freight are the big cost of training in the North. So I teach most of the program from my studio and fly in once, for the part that has to be hands-on.

Housing maintenance and repair, cold-climate walls and insulation, off-grid power and water, tiny homes and small builds. Your community leads, your people are trained, and your facilitator keeps the kit and the course when I leave. The next group needs less of me.

Talk about your community

Step 1

Plan together

Your training lead sets the goal and names a local facilitator.

Step 2

Train the facilitator

Two or three remote sessions on safety, stations and running a class.

Step 3

Live classes

Short live blocks from the studio, with the kit shipped ahead by winter road, sealift or air.

Step 4

Fly-in build week

I'm on the ground for a real project. Everything taught remotely gets used.
